I think that PikaBoost 2 does have a place in the market, it's for the person that wants to get out and ride a conventional bike but doesn't want to bust their ass up all the hills and they want to go a little bit further and it has a handful of features that are really useful. I'm going to add this thing to my collection of electric toys.

Will it meet local regulations?
We specifically included this adjustment in the app to ensure compliance with each region’s laws and regulations. When you first install and pair your PikaBoost 2 with the app, it will automatically recognize your location and adjust the maximum speed to comply with local regulations. This means that when you use PikaBoost 2 in Europe, your maximum speed, even with the assist, will be capped at 25 km/h.

How do I switch between different riding modes?
With the remote controller, you can switch between Cruise Mode and Power Assist Mode. For the other riding modes, you'll need to use the PikaBoost 2 app to make the switch.

Can I use PikaBoost 2 in rainy weather?
Yes, both the motor and battery have an IP66 protection rating. It's easy to clean if it gets dirty—just rinse it with water without needing to disassemble. However, we recommend using the PikaBoost 2 in light rain rather than heavy rain. Additionally, PikaBoost 2 has slip detection, which automatically stops power output if slipping is detected to ensure your safety.

Will PikaBoost 2 fit my bicycle?
Compatibility depends on the seatpost, tire, frame, rear rack, fender, and suspension—not wheel size alone. Please check the installation guide before purchasing.
How do you switch between different riding modes?
Using the remote control, you can switch between cruise mode and assist mode. For other riding modes, you need to switch using the PikaBoost 2 app.
Automatic Switch to Standby Mode?
When the device has low battery, it will automatically switch to standby mode.
In Assist Mode, Assist Feels Weak During Uphill Riding?
We recommend giving the bicycle an initial speed before climbing, then using PikaBoost's assist to help with the climb. This will make the ride feel significantly easier. For uphill starts from a standstill, the assist activates only when the speed exceeds 5 km/h, so the assist effect may not be as noticeable.
Is it normal for PikaBoost 2 to make noise while riding?
Some operating sound is normal because the drive roller remains in contact with the bicycle tire. Mountain-bike tires and coarse tread patterns may sound louder than smooth road tires.
Please check the sound outdoors. If you hear grinding, repeated impact sounds, or notice abnormal tire rubbing, stop using the unit and check the mounting position and roller alignment before riding again.
How can I prevent tire rubbing, roller misalignment, or derailment?
Before riding, make sure the seatpost clamp is fully tightened, the unit is securely locked, and the drive roller is centered on the tire.
Rotate the rear wheel by hand and confirm that it moves normally without side rubbing or repeated impact. Complete the required calibration after installation. Do not ride if the clamp is loose or the roller is off-center.
What affects range and charging time?
Range varies with rider weight, terrain, temperature, tire type, assistance level, and riding conditions. The 220Wh battery provides up to 70 km (43 miles) and takes approximately 4 hours with a compatible 65W USB-C PD charger.

I was initially surprised at the power of this thing but after a couple months small flaws started to show, but up until this catastrophic failure i would've given it 4 stars for what it is.. But just recently the mounting bracket that holds on to the seat itself just completely cracked and later snapped off. Looks like it was unfortunately cast with cheap pot metal and didnt really hold up for long. I only used it for my daily commute to work which is just under 2 miles and i store my bike inside at home and even at work so wear from weather was not at play here. Hopefully im able to somehow order just the bracket because if not then I definitely wont be purchasing a whole new device..

私の愛車は少々カスタムしたDAHON K9Xです。加齢による反射神経の低下で免許返納後の移動に趣味も兼ねて楽しんでいましたが、長い坂道と20kmを超えるライドの場面では9速ギアのK9Xでも決して快適とは言えませんでした。
そこでこの場面での快適走行を求めてPIKABOOST 2の導入を決意しました。8月9日に着荷したのですが、PIKABOOST 2の
自転車電動化のシステムは現在主流のトルクセンサーと車輪取付駆動モーターシステムと全く異なる為その点を十分に理解すべく摩擦駆動システムに慣れる時間を多く取りました。ですからまだ公道走行距離は20km程ですが高評価な点と要改善点をレビューさせて頂きます。
先ずは高評価な点は以下の5つです
１.アシストモードはトルクセンサーとアシスト強中弱と切り替える駆動モーターシステムよりアシストが自然それでいて強力で快適性では比べものにならない程優れてる
2.スタンバイモードがPIKABOOST 2の使いかってを拡げている
電動自転車として使わない時でもいちいちPIKABOOST 2を取り外さ無くてよいし、自転車に乗ってない時には安全を保証してくれる

この作業には5本のネジと決して使い易いとは言えぬ工具が必須です。これでは幾ら取付簡単…宣伝しても駄目です。ここは
少し時間が掛かって面倒でも手を抜いてはいけないところです。つまりこの作業をワンタッチかツータッチ位本当に簡単に
済ませられる様に是非改善すべきです。
2.専用電池なら専用充電器も最初から付属品に入れておくべきです。コードだけ付属品として充電器はご自分で用意して下さいと言うのはユーザーに不親切極まりないです。
3.アシストモードがとても自然、それでいて力強いアシストは秀逸ですが、それは平坦な道と緩やかな坂道についてであり
急な坂道を登る時はアシストの応答性を早めて頂けないとアシストが弱いと感じてしまう。坂にアシストが追い付いていない感じです。

日本の設定にしてますが惰性で加速を続けます。良識の範囲でブレーキかけてアシストオフにしてます。バッテリー充電は相性あるのですかね。電圧不足だと途中で止まります。65wPDだと充電器が熱対策で電圧降下すると充電がエラーになります。充電器に風を送って熱暴走対策したら65wで充電を継続してます。どんな充電器なら普通に充電できるのでしょうか？

A birthday gift for my mom that I installed. Installation of main unit was very easy; the handlebar controller and magnets were a bit trickier. She loves it and put in 25+ miles the first 2 days.

I was looking to electrify our bikes and had reviewed all the options. The PikaBoost 2 seemed the easiest and most cost effective way to add assistance to our bikes and so I signed up in September 2024 to Livall’s Indiegogo kickstarter project. The package did take an age to arrive but in March 2025 it was delivered and I mounted it on my son’s 25 year old Giant Box 2 mountain bike. It has rear suspension, which is a no-no but I have set it to rock hard so there is no movement. The assist mode wasn’t great initially but Livall listened to the issues and fixed all the problems in s/w version 1.6.6. Updating happens automatically over the air via their app so no hassle with that. The cruise mode is “not allowed” in Europe and the UK but should you accidentally set the app location to the USA and turn off location tracking at app level you can try it on ‘private roads’ and you will find it awesome! My wife had her second hip operation 8 weeks ago and we wanted both our bikes electrified so I brought a second PikaBoost direct from this Livall website. We’ve been on our first cycle ride together this afternoon and my wife said, “It’s absolutely brilliant!”. We’re going out again later…so we’re definitely converts.

I was looking for the simplest way to convert my Trek FX2 to have pedal assist and this exceeded my expectations. The installation was so simple. This device allowed me to keep the bicycle that I love and fits me so well. My first ride was a bunch of hills and I could not believe how powerful this was it felt no different than any ebike I've rented up today. I'm so excited about this addition ... While riding it was easy to switch modes, or put it in standby for normal use of the bicycle. I'm so happy I got this.

Alright, buckle up buttercups, because I've been diving deep into the wild world of the LIVALL PikaBoost 2 E-bike Conversion Kit, and let me tell you, it's like giving your regular bike a shot of espresso... or maybe a whole dang energy drink!
So, picture this: your trusty old steed, the one that groans louder than you do on Monday mornings, can suddenly zoom. This little gizmo just clips on like a high-tech backpack for your back tire, and BAM! You're practically Lance Armstrong (minus the drama, hopefully). The installation is so easy, even I could probably manage it without setting the garage on fire, which is saying something.
They've got more modes than my brain on a Sunday: Power Assist for when you're feeling lazy (no shame!), Eco for pretending you're saving the planet (while secretly enjoying the boost), Cruise for feeling like you're in a low-budget sci-fi movie, and Workout... well, why did you even buy this thing if you want a workout?! Just kidding (mostly).
And get this – it catches energy when you're slowing down! It's like your bike is secretly a tiny, eco-conscious vampire, sucking up juice whenever it can. They call it Regenerative Braking, I call it witchcraft.
Safety-wise, this thing is smarter than my uncle after three beers. It knows if you've taken a tumble (more than 30 degrees? You're out!), and it's got blinky lights on the back so cars don't mistake you for a particularly sweaty garden gnome. Plus, if your tire decides to do its best impression of a spinning top, the motor's like "Nope, not today!" and cuts the power. Smart cookie.
But the real kicker? It's also a portable charger! So, if your phone dies mid-epic bike adventure (documenting your newfound speed, obviously), you can just plug it into your bike. My mind? Officially blown.
Now, it's not all sunshine and spandex. Apparently, this friction drive thingy might not be the best for scaling Mount Everest, and if it's pouring rain, your tire might get a little... frisky. Plus, rubbing a roller on your tire all the time might mean you'll be buying new rubber sooner. Think of it as a stylish accessory that your tire reluctantly agrees to wear.

*Bonus tip for those who read my whole review,
When you are in Free Cruise mode, you can adjust the speed of the Cruise mode to max speed via the remote controller, max speed that is allowed in your country of residence and if you have a variable speed gear casette on your bike (eg. 9, 10, 11-speed) set it to smallest gear ratio(highest gear) and pedal your bike together with the assisted free Cruise mode in max speed and feel how you are zooming through the pathway at top speed. You gonna find yourself smiling like an idiot ear to ear!!

The ride was very satisfying on flat terrain in cruise mode, maintaining a constant speed of around 23-25 km/h with minimal effort. However, on slopes, I felt the bike could use a bit more power, even while pedaling. I hope this can be improved in the future.

Pikaboost 2 arrived in France!

My Apple Watch claims I am in poor cardio vascular health. Without the PB my bike's three pathetic gears can barely get me about 1/8 of the way from my start point to Griffith Observatory here in LA, a total trip of about 2.5mi with over 600ft of elevation gain.
With the PB on cruise AND me pushing myself hard, I made it all the way to the top without stopping even once. I honestly could not believe it worked, but here are the photos to prove it.
Lessons I learned:
1 - You MUST have a bike wheel that grips the PB wheel like grim death.
2 - You MUST tighten the primary screw extremely tight for the PB to maintain good contact when pushing down during calibration. Again, Livall needs to clarify the crews must be tightened very hard.
3 - You should expect to work your butt off, at least on steep climbs like this one and/or if you weigh much more than me.
For those who are curious about battery life, I started the ride around 95%, and had about 25% remaining at the top. I put the PB in workout mode for the trip back to maximize regen and ended up with about 50% charge after the 2.5mi trip back down.

Ride 27km and write down how I feel. Avoid high-slope uphill when you turn on free cruise mode. The wheels and tires are out of the friction limit, vibrating and accelerating tire wear. For exercise or uphill, assist mode is recommended. The free cruise mode is not immediately responsive when pedaling a bicycle, so make sure to use a remote controller. I was moved by the faster speed than I thought by pressing the speed up button several times on flat ground. Overall, I'm satisfied.
